I reached out to Nick Young Tuesday night after the Wizards found out they hold the #1 pick in the NBA Draft, and Nick’s initial reaction was simply, “it was shocking.” He went on to say that, “it feels good to have the #1 pick, and you can do what you want with it.” I asked Nick Young, what his thoughts were on the chance of having John Wall in a Wizards Uniform next season, “He’s a great player, and I hope he can become a good ambassador to this team.”

The Future Wizard

Ernie Grunfield, on a conference call, described his reaction, “I was very happy, I had the double fist pump in the air.” Ernie went on to say, “It was end of one era, and beginning of a new era.”
I asked Ernie Grunfield, if he did his due diligence on John Wall, and he responded with, “I did my due diligence on John Wall and others,” and went to add on, “John Wall is very competitive, has high energy, and is a winner.” Ernie said the “R” word (Rebuilding) and was not hiding the fact that the Washington Wizards were in rebuild mode.

Not only do they have the #1 pick of the NBA Draft, the Wizards own the 30th pick in the 1st round via the Antawn Jamison trade to Cleveland, and the 35th pick which is in the 2nd round. There are many prospects that could fit and contribute right away around those picks such as, local star from the University of Maryland’s very own Greivis Vasquez, South Florida’s shooting guard, 6`4 Dominique Jones, and Iowa’s State combo forward Craig Brackins.

Wizard’s fans are probably dreaming of when Wizards announcer Steve Buckhantz would say his famous line, “dagggerrrrr,” once John Wall hits a game winner. Then maybe he will also do his dance at the Verizon Center.
