Dream Sink Mystics in Final Second

Written by ABDULLAH SHARIF on .

Welcome back to reality Mystics fans.

In their first game following a dominating win over the New York Liberty last week, the Mystics went right back to square one.

Yup. We now return you to our regular season program.

In this latest episode, a 6-point lead with less than a minute to go was squandered when Sancho Lyttle sunk a 13-foot jump shot with 0.5 seconds remaining to lift her Atlanta Dream over the Mystics 72-70.

This was the second time in three games the Mystics lost on a buzzer beater.

Matee Ajavon continued her recent offensive surge, scoring 28 points including 17 in the 4th quarter. But it wasn’t enough. It’s seems it’s never enough. Mother Teresa couldn’t save these women from their late game collapses.

Crystal Langhorne finished added 23 points for the Mystics, who now have dropped to 4-15, losing 5 of their last 6 games.

The 3rd quarter also didn’t fair well for the Mystics. Scoring only 10 points in the period, we were welcomed to Brick City as the shooting percentage fell from 42% at halftime to 32% by the end of the quarter. A 19-6 run in the 4th quarter finally pulled the Mystics ahead but that was quickly wiped out as the Dream ended the game on  an 11-3 surge.

ABBY’S CORNER

  • Pretty cool seeing Twin City on the court with sisters Kelly and Coco Miller facing each other.

  • As opposed to the Panda, I’m always excited to see our alternate mascot bustin’ moves, despite the fact he looks like Roger Rabbit’s evil twin.
