Goodman League > Drew League

Written by Asad Naqvi on .

This past Saturday night was a fun time, I can't lie.  It was just as I had expected and more actually.  The people that were very lucky to get in for one (there was a huge line outside that couldn't get in and bought tickets) to watch some of the top talent of the NBA and the streets of LA/DC.

Players like my boy, Baby Shaq, had some great exposure. Baby Shaq actually started along the likes of John Wall, DeMarcus Cousin, and Kevin Durant. From being the highest paid And 1 player ever to playing along the likes of the NBA greats.  It was truly a blessing to see that.

There was plenty of interaction between players and their fans.  James Harden of Oklahoma City, especially would hang out with the fans on numerous occassions.  WPGC 95.5 and former host of BET Rap City The Basement, Big Tigger was in attendance, joking around with the players as well.  Speaking of players, among some that weren't in the game but in attendance watching were Rudy Gay and Hasheem Thabeet of the Memphis Grizzlies.

I had my own interaction with DeMarcus Cousins of the Sacramento Kings. We joked about a tweet I had posted making fun of him a while back. He looks at me during a timeout, comes towards me, and says "you think your funny, huh?" and I just laughed and said "nope, not anymore". He shook my hand as we both laughed it off.  Intimidation, got to love it.

Funny thing about it is most of the players on the Drew League had some kind of connection with the D.C. area.  Either they were from the DMV area or even play for the Wizards (JaVale McGee). Nick Young was not in attendance, although apparently he would have been if he had answered his phone, said the coach of the Drew League.  Apparently, I'm not the only one that can't get in contact with him.

Basketball Never stops

As a fan, this was a great display of basketball.  The crowd was into it and the simple fact that people paid to see the best available not named LeBron, Kobe or Dwayne made it all the more sweet.  With that said, the players said they are really interested in a rematch. Assuming there is one, it will probably be in LA sooner rather than later, especiall if the NBA lockout is still luring in the next couple months.
