Post Game Quotes (Courtesy of the Wizards PR Staff)
WIZARDS COACH FLIP SAUNDERS
On how he felt the rookies on the Wizards’ played:
“I thought our rookies tonight were all great. I thought Seraphin was very good tonight; I thought John was good; I thought that Booker was good and you know Jordan Crawford came in and gave us a great spark and did a nice job. I was extremely happy with how they played.”
On how he felt the team as a whole played:
“I was extremely happy with how we competed in the fourth game in five nights. As a team I think we are playing better, we are moving the ball better. Unfortunately we are playing against really good teams right now.”
On how he felt guard Jordan Crawford played:
“Well he can make plays. He is playmaker as far as he has the ability to score. He is extremely talented. He has no fear going against anybody, and the other thing was he made shots, so we kept him in the game.”
On why he thought his team lost:
“The only thing we did not do is shoot free-throws too well, and the whole team did that. You know if we shot free-throws, we win the game. It’s pretty point blank.”
WIZARDS GUARD JOHN WALL
On coming back stronger in the second half:
“We all stepped up and just played harder and played with confidence and competed. We can be in just about every game against every team and we have a chance to win. We work hard. We just need to learn how to finish out the stretch.”
On his confidence in the last couple of games:
“I’m just taking the confidence that I had coming from the All Star break. Chris Webber made a comment saying most of the time when people have a good All Star break they come back aggressive and with confidence, and I think that’s what I’m doing.”
WIZARDS GUARD NICK YOUNG
On his highlight lay-up and the game:
“I thought about doing a 720 and bringing out something new. Honestly, I think it was all luck tonight, a little bit of luck. We fought back hard and we got a spark from the lay-up and the fans got into it. John started pushing the ball up and down the court, and that helped our team make some good plays.”
On the new players:
“They all have been on good teams, especially Mike because he’s been around the league for awhile so he’s seen everything. They did a good job, sometimes they didn’t know the plays but for the most part they brought a lot of energy.”
On John Wall’s aggressiveness:
“Either they were keying on him or keying on me, so someone had to take over. Tonight was a night he had it going and they couldn’t stop him. He was just too fast for them. The three he shot was a big play that got us going the rest of the night. We tried our best to deal with them but they’re a tough team to deal with.”
MAVERICKS HEAD COACH RICK CARLISLE
On playing Washington:
“This was a tough game. It was a tough game on paper; it was a tough game on the floor. This team is athletic and they are competing hard and they play their best basketball against better teams. We knew it would be a dog fight. I’m glad we hung in and were able to get the win. Obviously we would like to do a few things down the stretch but the guys found a way and it’s good to get out of here alive.”
On John Wall:
“Wall puts tremendous pressure on your entire defense. A lot of times when you run back the guy that’s guarding him isn’t in the vicinity and someone else has to take him like Marion had him in the last play. It’s tough. You’ve got to have a couple guys right next to you otherwise he is going to find a seam and he is going to make something happen. He did that a lot but we came up with some strips and we made charges on him but we were in good position a lot of the time too.”
MAVERICKS CENTER TYSON CHANDLER
On John Wall:
“He’s one of the fastest player’s I’ve ever played against. Once he is determined to get to the basket it’s hard to stop him.”
On JaVale McGee:
“I think McGee is going to be a very good player in this league. He is very talented, he has all the tools, he just has to hone in on it. It takes awhile for a big guy but he has everything that you would want to see in a big guy. He’s more athletic than I was, he just has to understand how he can be effective and it takes awhile.”
MAVERICKS FORWARD DIRK NOWITZKI
On the game:
“We had a couple 10-point leads there. We had one in the second quarter, lost the lead way too quick. We had one in the third quarter and lost the lead again. We didn’t do a good job of slowing the game down there when we had some leads. We just kept on chucking. We missed a couple shots, put them in transition and they were right back in the game. You have to give them credit. They kept coming, kept playing hard, fought all the way down the stretch.”
On closing the game:
“We made enough plays to win. We got some stops down the stretch that we needed. Tyson [Chandler] had a big offensive rebound. It was a tie game and he stuck it back in to go back up two. I think that was the play of the game.”
On the road trip:
“I feel like every game on the road is hard. Teams are playing well at home. They are playing with confidence. It’s a good win for us and we have another one tomorrow. Toronto beat us at the beginning of January at home. That’s a big one. Philadelphia is playing extremely well at home. They beat San Antonio before the break at home. They just reached the .500 mark for the first time in a long time so they are really playing well. We have our hands full for the next couple days.”
