In case you did not hear, Al Thornton has been waived by the Washington Wizards. Sadly to say, he was one of the guys I was closer too on the team. There was not a bad bone in that guys body. It was hard not to love the guy, he was really down to earth and WE (WizardsExtreme) will miss him.
Al Thornton was waived due to the fact that we are 'jam logged' as Ernie put it, at the small forward position. Al averaged 8 points and 3 rebounds per game this season which was a career low so far. He once averaged 16.8 in 2008/2009 for the LA Clippers.
Josh Howard and Reggie Evans take that role and eventually leads the door opening up for Josh Howard to come back if he decides to resign with the Wiz Kids.
It wasn't the fact that he wasn't playing well, he just didn't fit Coach Flip Saunders scheme nor his lineup mixes. With a new start, he should excel in the right offense.
I called Al to get his thoughts but he did not return my phone call.
My fondest memory was talking about hip hop and music in general with Al Thornton. I will never forget when he told me he listens to Destiny's Child's song "Survivor" before a game to pump him up. I thought that was hilarious and really cool coming from an NBA player. His favorite artist was Ciara by the way.
Apparently Al has found a new home in Golden St. with the Warriors. Hilarious how we play them tonight too!
