Mystics: New Season Around The Corner

The Washington Mystics last season got swept in the playoffs (it's a DC curse, I just know it ala Capitals/Wizards/Redskins/Nationals). But this season is so much different, as they present new colors along with the logo like the Wizards, but unlike their men counterparts, the Mystics have a new head coach in Trudy Lacey.
Lacey was an assistant to a Mystics team that went 22-12 last year before being swept in the playoffs by the Atlanta Dream. Lacey had this presence about her which was very respectful. These players seem like they have nothing but total respect for Lacey. Alana Beard, the old face of the franchise (I'll explain later what I mean by this), went on to say that, "If we ever had a problem or an issue we would go Coach Lacey," then later added, “I think there will be a change. I think Trudi does a great job of implementing plays that play to the strength of the players."
These new Mystics will be looking to run much more on offense with an uptempo offense. You can think of the Phoenix Suns when you think running up and down the court. If that is the case, then that should be some fun basketball to watch.
Mystics will be with out forward Monique Curry who is going to miss the season with an ACL injury. Last season, the Mystics were with out the old face of the franchise, Alana Beard. Hopefully they don't have to go through that this upcoming season.
Ok, so there is no question, Beard is the captain and leader of this team but there is new blood that may soon be the NEW face of the franchise, rookie Victoria Dunlap. Dunlap is from the University of Kentucky. Remind you of anyone? (Jimmy Wall, duh)
Victoria told me that she has been exchanging text with Washington Wizards John Wall here and there before her arrival to Washington.
Dunlap was selected with the 11th pick in the WNBA Draft. She is here to help the front court of the Mystics. She may as well be the new face of the franchise if she can live up to her expectations. Either way, she looks to help this team in many ways.
Should be an exciting season as the Mystics start the season on June 4th as they play the Connecticut Sun in Connecticut.
