[ WE Game Recap ]: Wizards at Pistons: Ailing Wizards Now in Complete Fetal Position

This segment is becoming tougher and tougher to write. It's about as bad as solving word problems in third grade. When the nine players you're forced to choose from have a plus/minus best of minus-7, and to further make matters complex, that player is Jan Vesely, you know your work is cut out for you. You might as well fold this portion of the recap for the rest of the season. Yes, that's how bad the Wizards played last night. Anyways, I know it may seem that choosing Jordan Crawford is the easy way out, but, well, he's the only player on this squad with any inkling of offensive proficiency. Having said that, JCraw scored 20 points on (sadly) 23 shots. He grabbed just over a half dozen boards, had seven assists, and zero help. Even with his stat line better than the rest of his teammates by a good fraction, he was still a minus-24. And that's simply because the Wizards never had a chance in this game past the midway point of the first quarter. For more on JCraw, keep scrolling down.

Jordan Crawford: It's quite clear that Crawford is playing the role of a sole catalyst on this sorely shrunk roster. Although his stat sheet somewhat paralleled that of a slumping Kevin Seraphin (who attempted the second most team shots), he did finish with 10 more points than Kevin and even grabbed one more rebound. This is how deficient the Wizards offense has become. I mean, we all knew the roster talent was just above questionable at the beginning of the season, but now it's a downright mess. And the scrutiny against Crawford for being the ultimate brick layer can simmer a bit too. Because if he ain't shootin, nobody is...

Greg Monroe: Monroe, along with his collegue, rookie Andre Drummond had a field day with the Wizards' bigs. Monroe finished with 15 points and nine rebounds in just three quarters of play after sitting out the final period thanks to a 30 point lead.

The Good

Well, the good thing is that Redskins control their own destiny. They win tomorrow and next Sunday, the division is theirs and if we're optimistic about RG3's recovery, this should be a fun playoff run to watch.

Oh, we're still on the Wizards. Yeah, this is another segment that should be forfeited for games like these. Umm, but I wish I could structure my words correctly in an attempt to apply some positivity here. I'm really trying. Maybe the Wizards can remember a lot of their mistakes and apply some changes when they play the same team again tonight? What can you really build on from a loss like this? A 32 point loss to a seven-win team coming off six straight losses. And that will mercily segway me into the more appropriate segment... 

 

The Bad

As mentioned earlier, this game was out of reach just about midway through the first quarter when the 'Zards went down 12-3 after starting something like 1/12 from the floor. Missed layups, misfiring on open shots, Emeka Okafor, oh and Andre Drummond's block party (5). The Wizards finished shooting 32% from the floor. They did manage to get a dozen hustle boards on offense, and although they led to reset shot clocks, they still ended up in missed shots.
