Veterans Weigh in on the Wizards and Team USA

While all eyes have been focused on Team USA’s practices and scrimmages this weekend in DC, a few NBA veterans hosted a skills clinic for children of the armed forces.

Patrick Ewing, Georghe Muresan, Lenny Wilkens, and Teresa Edwards all assisted with the clinic which held five different stations for the children to learn the fundamentals of basketball.

Two of the veterans, Ewing and Muresan, had some interesting comments about everything from Bradley Beal to Team USA, but the most interesting (and mindboggling) was Ewing on Wizards’ first round draft pick Bradley Beal.

When asked, Ewing implied that he didn’t hear the name. But after finally hearing it, his response was head-shaking.

How an assistant coach in the NBA doesn’t know who the number three draft pick over the summer is beyond comprehension to me, but Georghe Muresan was quick to back him up, and then quick to weigh in on his opinion of Andray Blatche.

His quotes on Blatche were very interesting to me. The fact that he repeated the phrase “hard worker” when saying that’s who Blatche needs to be in order to be on the Wizards really makes me think that the fans will be seeing some move with his roster spot.

While upbeat and excited when talking about Bradley Beal, the trade for Okafor and Ariza as well as the summer league, his demeanor immediately diminished when speaking on Blatche. I got the sense from Georghe that no one is too happy with this guy in the locker room.

The only hope for the fans at this point is that the Wizards are working harder to move him than he is at his game.
