Living Wizardly: Pride and Loyalty. You Mad Bro?

Written by SAAM BOZORGMEHR on .

The generation of social media we live in today has bridged many connections between fans and the rest of the sports world, granting in-depth access to their favorite teams and athletes with a simple click of a button. The type of access our daddys would have only dreamed of attaining. So this year, WE are proud to offer Wizards fans a segment that will reveal the week’s top three Wizards-related tweets, Facebook statuses, Instagram uploads, perhaps an AIM away message even. Whether it’s posted by a Wizard or about a Wizard, we’ll be sure to find it, and expose it. Saam Bozorgmehr (@DJ_Saam) continues our weekly tradition with his own findings and posts..

It's been a very up and down couple of weeks for this suddenly, but not so unexpected, resurgent Wizards unit. After dropping four in a row last week, three of which were on the road, the Wiz Kids have responded by winning their last two games. Both of which were against division leaders, again. *Yawn*

Maybe sooner or later the headlines won't necessarily be about the other teams choking games away to the Wizards. Perhaps they will be about how the Wizards completely outplayed and outclassed their supposed "superior" opponents in every phase of the game. Who knows, we might even finally get an ESPN game. How is it that seemingly every team gets at least or two nationally televised games on the four letter network except the Wizards? But that's another topic for another day.

In any case, moving forward: it's been a pretty exciting week at Verizon Center for the home team. Besides the wins and great fundamental basketball and superior play, they also earned themselves a shout out on CSN from Magic Johnson himself. Magic was in town on Wednesday to give a speech at Howard University and later that night, found himself courtside with Ted Leonsis as they watched the Wizards beat the Knicks...

After speaking with Chris Miller about why he was in town, Magic added "Go Wizards, everybody come out and see this team. They're young and exciting." I'm not going to lie, I was a little shocked to hear that. I wonder if ESPN will send him a pink slip for acknowledging the local Washington D.C. basketball team in a positive light? Anytime you get praise from one of the greatest of all time on your local TV station, it's a step in the right direction. Thanks for the plug Magic :)

Some people may view this as me being biased, but I say this from the perspective of someone who reads wizards related media daily: Wizards Extreme has the BEST content out there. Not just from our article that range from pregame/post game write ups, but daily segments and video posts. I'll put our writers up there with anyone in the local scene. I say that with pride and the upmost respect. However, our in game tweets are on another level. Between myself, the Afghan Adventure (Abdullah Sharif) and "Magic Mike" Andrews, we can make you laugh a couple times. That is, unless you're a salty Knicks fan. It's ok New Yorkers, pitchers and catchers report on Monday.

Last but not least, I've made my fan marriage with the Wizards official. After seeing what this team is capable of and what they can accomplish with their full compliment of athletes, I'm a believer. This team is definitely not a title contender. Not yet at least, but they're definitely not far away from being a legit playoff contender year in and year out. It's not just sheer coincidence that they've been 9-7 over their last 16 games. This is a team that has finally begun to gel together now that their floor general is back and running the show. In a league where one or two guys can take a team from the NBA's black hole to the mecca of national credibility, John Wall has shown that this team is much better than their record indicates. I believe that if this team stays together and they can stay healthy, they're playoff contenders next season. Maybe you can add one more small forward into the mix, but as is, this roster is good enough to win at least 40 games if they can stay healthy. I firmly believe that. As a result, I wear my Wizards pride on my sleeve. Well, not literally, but my laptop shows it! So from now on, if you come out to one of my shows and see my Wizards decal, don't hate, embrace.

One love! Go Wiz Kids!
