Wall’s Passion Starting to Show Again

Written by MIKE ANDREWS on .

After a generally slow start to his sophomore season, the Wizards’ 2010 number-one draft pick John Wall is starting to show that he is not willing to just sit back and take loss after loss.

Wall, like any other superstar (and yes, I do consider John Wall to be a superstar in the NBA), has had his share of extremely slow games in the past couple of weeks. His most recent poor outing came on February 1 versus the Orlando Magic where he had a dismal 2 points and could not buy a foul call.

What to do with McGee?

Written by Trevor Jackson on .

Throughout the community of Wizards fans, there is not a more polarizing player then JaVale McGee.  There are supporters who believe McGee is a potential all-star and think Washington should do what they can to keep him, and then there are those who believe he has no basketball IQ and should be on the next flight out of DC.  No one player elicits such a broad range of opinion when discussing his value to the Wizards and their long-term plans.  Some say he should be moved immediately while he still has trade value; others say he is the future of the NBA (granted the latter is from his mom).

Jeremy Lin Invades Chinatown

Written by Asad Naqvi on .

How can you explain this one?  I will steal George Bush’s vocabulary: I was in shock and awe.

I’ve heard of other teams coming in here and having “their” fan, who are mostly from Washington DC, cheering harder than the Wizards fans.

What was difference this time is the fans of the Knickerbockers cheering “Let’s go GIANTS,” along with “Let’s go Knicks” and then to top it off with, “Let’s go Lin.”

Jeremy Lin, yeah the new fashion of the NBA.

He seems to be the new golden child of the media. Funny thing is, I knew this was going to happen to the Wizards.  I didn’t doubt John Wall one bit, but we knew that Jeremy Lin was coming in here to play.

Jeremy has skills, he can shoot, he can pass, and his basketball IQ is amazingly high. He’s got sneaky quickness.  It’s hard to hate the guy; he’s that underdog you always love to root for.

Lin finished with 23 points, 10 assist, and 4 rebounds.  That’s a great stat line for a guy who has only played a handful of games this season.

John Wall wasn’t so bad either. He finished with 29 points and 6 assists.

Washington Can't Capitalize. "Lin-Sanity" invades Verizon Center

Written by SAAM BOZORGMEHR on .

Two major story lines heading in to last night's game:

1. The absence of Carmelo Anthony and Amare Stoudemire
2. John Wall VS Jeremy Lin.

Forgive me for spoiling the ending in case anyone didn't watch the game. Neither story line worked out in favor of the home team. Personally, as a fan,  I'm livid over tonight's effort. Not because of the lack of hustle or execution, but because this team lost the game the same way they had been losing their games early on.

1. They got lazy during the 3rd quarter.
2. The team defense was inexistent.

The Jeremy Lin circus made it's stop in to Verizon Center and the "influence" was very noticeable. From the extra 100+ media members to the 2,000+ Asian fans in attendance, the Lin show was here and it definitely was worth the price of admission. The cheers from the New York faithful over a missed Lin lay up were louder than anything the home team was able to do on offense. The guy could do no wrong. Sometimes I couldn't tell the difference between a Jeremy Lin missed shot and Jeremy Lin tomahawk slam over an inexistent Washington defense. A dunk that ANY NBA player is capable of making.

Trade Deadline Looming for Wizards

Written by CHARLES LAMAR on .

Year 2 of the rebuild has not gone as smoothly as Wizards fans would have hoped but this IS a rebuild. Simply put, if the Wizards don’t want to alienate the already sparse fan base, the roster has to undergo a major transformation and increase the toughness and basketball IQ of this team.

The players that the Wizards could use as trade bait have severely diminished their trade value this season with sloppy, uninspired play. As much as it pains me that the Wizards once again have to give up players with potential, at least one of the ‘Knuckleheads’: Andray Blatche, Nick Young, JaVale McGee, or the newest member Jordan Crawford, have to go.

The Jeremy Lin Show Comes to DC

Written by Asad Naqvi on .

Come Wednesday, there will be a matchup that nobody would expect to be filled with hype.  Let me start off by saying that John Wall’s hardest challenge is coming in the form of a Harvard grad in Jeremy Lin.

Over the last two games, Jeremy Lin has made a statement in the NBA and has been the tentative solution to the New York Knicks' point guard issues.  Baron Davis who was initially crowned as the savior for the Knicks at the 1 position has been out with an injury.

Jeremy Lin, a 6`3 point guard has sparked the Knicks with his up-temp style of basketball.  He’s making great moves and confusing defenders with his sneaky quickness.

nydailynews

One person who is really familiar with Lin is Washington’s own John Wall.  Some of you may remember, Jeremy Lin first made his name against Wall when they faced each other during the Las Vegas Summer League in 2011 (rookie years for both players).

Check out this PRO Jeremy Lin video.  Regardless, it does show highlights of what he was doing to Wall.

I was there to witness the crowd turn from Wall fans into Jeremy Lin fans.

Expect Wall to be aggressive agains Lin, similar to the tough defense he imposed on Raptors point guard Jose Calderone, when he held him to only 4 points and 3 assists.  After the game, John Wall told Comcast SportsNet's Chris Miller that he took it personal the fact that Calderon had his number the last time the Raptors and Wizards met.

This time around, I hope he takes it more than just personal.  A hot Jeremy Lin comes to Washington and will make his 2nd straight start in his young NBA career.  Lin started last night for the very first time and scored a career high 28 points.  Hopefully history does not repeat itself.

Wizards Are Heartbroken

Written by Mike Andrews on .

In any break-up, one of the two members of the couple is always seeking closure. If closure is not reached, one person is left with a nagging thought constantly running through his or her head. The Washington Wizards have had a tumultuous relationship with the NBA season, and in order to get back on track, they need to find their closure.

In the past 25 games, the Wizards have played Boston three times, Orlando two times, Toronto three times, Chicago two times, Philadelphia three times, Houston twice, and Charlotte twice. It’s a given that every year you’re going to see a lot of the same teams. But with this condensed schedule and already having two “home-and-home” series with the 76ers and the Celtics, it’s like going out time after time after that break-up and only seeing your ex’s friends.

Wizards Must Find a Way to Capitalize on Victories

Written by ABDULLAH SHARIF on .

In the midst of a calamitous season of Wizards basketball, we’ve been witness to quite an epidemic of atrocity.

From the very get go we were exposed to an in-game collapse against the New Jersey Nets on opening night, only to be followed by the post-game whimpers of Captain Andray Blatche as he fussed about being displaced in Flip Saunders’ offense.

bleacherreport

That incident was the jumpstart to a rash of headlines that surrounded the team on a nightly basis: John Wall’s slow progression, Rashard Lewis’ renouncement of the phrase “there is no such thing as a free lunch”, and of course the players’ disenchantment with Flip Saunders, which lead to the coach’s subsequent demise.
