[ Fan Mail ] - Kevin Durant 2016?

Written by CHARLES LAMAR on .

A few days ago, we received an e-mail from Matthew Rich, an avid reader of Wizards Extreme, expressing his thoughts about a potential acquisition in 2016 that would not only re-shape the state of the Washington Wizards franchise for many, many years, but an acquisition that would make history for the sport of basketball in the city of Washington. We're talking about Kevin Durant. Now, of course, it's considered entirely far fetched to even allow these thoughts to surface at this particular time, not just because of the current state of the franchise as it's still polishing up it's "rebuild", but also the fact that, well, 2016 is still three years away. Nevertheless, we read through the email, which was very well thought out, and decided to respond and give our take as well. Have a look...

Matthew's message:

First off, I am an avid reader of this blog. I am a devout NBA and basketball fan, and one of my hobbies is to read up on every single team in order to get a sense of each and every organization.

First and foremost, I am potentially Kevin Durant's biggest fan. Like Trevor with C-Webb, I became a KD fan his freshman year at UT. I grew up in Fort Worth, TX, so he was huge everywhere that year with Austin only 2 1/2 hours away. My fandom followed him to Seattle, and now ultimately to OKC. Therefore, I have grown to be a devout Thunder fan.

With the Wizards in town tonight, I began to think about their fans and their relationship to KD. With his contract up in 2016, I've begun to notice a slight change in his tone about re-upping with OKC. It used to be an unequivocal “YES, I am staying here my entire career.” But last time he was asked on twitter, KD responded, "Who knows what the future holds, but I'm planning on it."

This sounds eerily similar to the stance that Melo, LeBron, CP3, etc. took before they left. Now I ask you, as a fan base, and considering KD is now argued as potentially the best player from the DMV ever now, over some HOFers, is he the big fish that this fan base desperately wants? Would y'all start doing anything to try and get him? By y'all, I mean not only the fans but the organization as well.

I think if KD is ever to leave OKC, being the type of person he is, a homecoming to the DMV would be his top choice, especially if the Wizards are on the ascension, as these past two months are showing, especially with a Wall/Beal backcourt.

Considering that he has Maryland and DMV tattooed all over his torso, I think this is possible. However, the Wizards would have to start formulating their team to be attractive and to clear salaries off their books, similar to what the Knicks did with Melo.

What are you guys' thoughts to this? Am I off base, or on to something? I for one, would be open to a KD-Wizards union if he were to leave OKC if that meant a better shot at titles. That is the only team I would want him to go to, though. Much appreciated, and kind regards, Matthew.

Jahidi White’s Film Career is Off to a Great Start

Written by JAMAL A. SMITH on .

I’ve always felt strangely connected to Jahidi White.  My godfather bought a gold Denali formerly owned by White several years ago.  When I used to drive it – rolling around in the cavernous driver’s seat while making turns – I felt honored; sharing the ass print of a player from my favorite team.

White was the semi-skilled, undersized bowling ball of a guy who played college ball locally and got drafted by the hometown Wizards.  What he lacked in finesse (ever seen a guy pump fake 13 times under the rim?), he made up for with sheer power.  He never even averaged 10 points per game, but, you know – it was Jahidi.  And what’s that?  That’s the sound of the Cab Calloway classic blaring through the arena loudspeakers after a Jahidi dunk.

No one’s really heard much from White since he spent time in Phoenix and then dissolved into obscurity in Charlotte.  So you can imagine my glee when I came across a reference to him playing a bit role in a gotdman movie.

White played the role of the alien Kronnan, an alien in the movie Showdown at Area 51.  I haven’t seen the film, but the trailer shows him taking on a demure, intimidating role, much like that of his NBA career.  White takes bullets (see what I did there?), shoots barbed projectiles, and sadly, gets crushed by a tower of impounded vehicles.

I checked out White’s IMDB page, but can’t find any evidence of any other performances.  But this is our favorite Washington career underdog.  He’ll find a way.

[ Paying Homage ] - C-Webb: My Childhood Mancrush

Written by TREVOR JACKSON on .

Growing up as a kid, I was always a big time basketball fan, whether it'd be shooting hoops in the driveway, or watching games on TV and hoping my dad would let me stay up past my bed time. I became obsessed with Michigan’s Fab Five team, adopted them as my own, and made my mother go out and buy me as much Michigan gear as a little kid could wear at the same time.

While I liked the entire Fab Five as a whole, the one player that stood out to be above and beyond was Chris Webber. I had an unhealthy relationship with Chris Webber as a child.

John Drives Memphis Up a Wall

Written by SAAM BOZORGMEHR on .

In my total 14 year old kid moment, I somewhat forgot I was covering last night's game on behalf of the media. Constantly looking to my colleague, Abdullah, and saying, "Did you see that crossover?", "Oh my goodness, he's on fire." At one point when Wall drove to the basket between two Grizzlies players and hit an under hand scoop lay up to finish the half I belted, "He's going to get 50 tonight!!"
If John felt like was a kid playing backyard ball at the expense of Jerryd Bayless' knee caps, I felt like the kid at the park watching him in awe.

[ Who to Watch ] - NCAA Tournament 2nd/3rd Round Prospect Roundup

Written by ABDULLAH SHARIF & JOE GLORIOSO on .

The 2013 NCAA Tournament kicked off late last week and it's been quite the ride. Brackets have been destroyed by upsets as we witnessed eight double-digit seeded teams advance out of the second round. Even with some of the top teams still advancing, very few have been getting by with ease, as teams like Indiana, Miami and Ohio State all squeaked by their opponents this weekend to get into the Sweet 16.

Unfortunately for us, the obliteration of our brackets also caused a few of our chosen top 10 prospects to exit the tournament early. Marcus Smart, Anthony Bennett, Shabazz Muhammad, and Georgetown's Otto Porter were all one-and-dones, while Gonzaga's Kelly Olynik survived only one game.

In any case, Abdullah and Joe recap each of our players showcased in the WE Top 10 list below.
