I like the nats better(I live in MD but I'm a washington homer). It's sort of like Redskins and Ravens...I like the redskins though.

Gil&theWiz
04-06-2008, 07:19 PM
Yeah but....lets say the ravens have been around for 70+ years...and 8 years ago the redskins came to town.

would you hate the skins?..would you ditch the team you've rooted for for years (the ravens..)??

I know it's differnt in the nfl...but in baseball both these teams are bottom feeders (at this point) why hate?

BigThree

The O's just don't interest me. It may be different with other people but in my opinion the Nats are more fun to watch.

lol..Well because MOST(im not saying all) nationals fans hate the Orioles and are so annoying when I go to the O's games in DC..So I just enjoy watching the nationals lose..That and also the fact that alot of people that are nationals fans now, use to be Orioles fans.

Have you ever considered GOSKINS that the people dont exactly hate the Orioles, but more so hate Peter Angelos and his blockade of 15 years that prevented baseball in the Nations Capital?

Opposition from the Orioles

The move was announced despite opposition from Peter Angelos (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Peter_Angelos), owner of the nearby Baltimore Orioles. Since 1972, the Orioles had been the only MLB franchise in the Baltimore-Washington area, which he considered a single market in spite of vastly different cultures and populations in the two cities. Angelos contended that the Orioles would suffer financially if another team were allowed to enter the market. Critics objected that the Orioles and the Washington Senators had shared the market successfully from 1954 through 1971. This reasoning disturbed many in Washington who recalled that it was the Griffith family, owners of the Washington Senators, who allowed the St. Louis Browns to move to Baltimore in 1954 in the first place.

On March 31 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/March_31), 2005 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2005_in_baseball), Angelos and Major League Baseball struck a deal to protect the Orioles against any financial harm the Nationals might present.

Under the terms of the deal, television and radio broadcast rights to Nationals games are handled by the Orioles franchise, who formed a new network (the Mid-Atlantic Sports Network (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mid-Atlantic_Sports_Network)) to produce and distribute the games for both franchises on both local affiliates and cable/satellite systems. MASN was not, however, immediately available on all cable providers, adding to the frustration of Nationals fans. In fact, most in the DC area missed almost the entirety of the Nationals first two seasons. The deal with Angelos makes the Nationals the only major league baseball team which does not own their own broadcast rights. (THE DEAL IS THE BIGGEST CROCK OF **** ON THE PLANET by the way)

Gil&theWiz, I am pretty darn sure that there is not a single person in Baltimore who would call the Nationals lowly...considering the past ten years looks a lot worse for Baltimore than it did for the Expos/Nats..and consider the circumstances

1998 Montreal 65 97 .401 41 (4) East
1999 Montreal 68 94 .420 35 (4) East
2000 Montreal 67 95 .414 28 (4) East
2001 Montreal 68 94 .420 20 (5) East
2002 Montreal 83 79 .512 19 (2) East
2003 Montreal 83 79 .512 18 (4) East
2004 Montreal 67 95 .414 29 (5) East
2005 Washington 81 81 .500 9 (5) East
2006 Washington 71 91 .438 26 (5) East
2007 Washington 73 89 .451 16 (4) East

1998 Baltimore 79 83 .488 35 (4) East
1999 Baltimore 78 84 .481 20 (4) East
2000 Baltimore 74 88 .457 13.5 (4) East
2001 Baltimore 63 98 .391 32.5 (4) East
2002 Baltimore 67 95 .414 36.5 (4) East
2003 Baltimore 71 91 .438 30 (4) East
2004 Baltimore 78 84 .481 23 (3) East
2005 Baltimore 74 88 .457 21 (4) East
2006 Baltimore 70 92 .432 27 (4) East
2007 Baltimore 69 93 .426 27 (4) East

MUST I REMIND ALL OF YOU NATIONALS BASHERS.....This franchise was RUN (and that is an overstatement), RUN by Major League Baseball. We had the worst farm system in the whole major leagues. We traded stars for crap. Yet still the Nats have averaged 1 more win per season than the Orioles over the past decade. Not to mention even with the ownership of MLB, decline of the farm system, playing in the cavernous RFK stadium and a payroll 1/3 the size of Baltimore's the Nationals have averaged 5 more wins per year than the Orioles over the last 5 years, including 3 season of .500 or above baseball to the Orioles ZERO!

Who is lowly again?

Keep cheering GOSKINS you guys are kickin the crap out of April Baseball...call me back in August.

Just wanted to take the time to...

http://www.lindamoran.net/images/footinmouth.jpg

All props to the Orioles and Andy McPhail for doing what nobody thought they would, and field a highly competitive team, while the Nats are just playing God awful baseball.

I think the Bad News Bears could hit better than this collection of batters we have right now, its pretty damn pathetic. As i've said before, i root for the Orioles unless they play the Nats, which this time next week Admin and i will be watching live, but i wanted to give credit where it is due.
