Read about this on another site and wanted to pass it on as an O's fan. It's a chance to see a doubleheader of some real good baseball talent completely free and also meet Brooks Robinson and get his autograph, also completely free. If any of you are somewhat close, I would definitely recommend coming down. Their message is copy-and-pasted below.
On Sunday, June 1st, Oriole legend BROOKS ROBINSON will be attending the Bethesda Big Train game at Shirley Povich Field. The game is 100% FREE, as is Brooks' autograph signing from 6:30-7:15 P.M (please limit one per person). We'd love to have a ton of you there to help us honor the 25th anniversary of Robinson's induction into the Hall of Fame.
June 1st will be a doubleheader, with two exhibition games against the Bethesda Blue Caps of the Clark Griffith League and the Senators of the Industrial League at 5 and 7:30 p.m., respectively. Andy Pollin of Sportstalk980 will also be there, and it is also Chick-fil-A Night, as if you needed any more reasons to come.
While admission and autographs are free, contributions to the Bethesda Community Base Ball Club are much-appreciated. We are a non-profit 501 c3, and all money raised goes towards refurbishing youth baseball and softball fields in Montgomery County and Washington, D.C.
The Big Train is a non-profit collegiate summer league baseball team in the Cal Ripken, Sr. Collegiate Baseball League that play at Shirley Povich Field in Cabin John Regional Park. Please check out our website at www.bigtrain.org for more information, as well as our schedule here: http://www.bigtrain.org/published/20..._schedule.html for a number of great events for baseball fans throughout the season, such as Walter Johnson Bobblehead Night, Shirley Povich book giveaways, G-Man, Screech, Tim Kurkjian, the Oriole Bird, Keys and Baysox Nights, and much more!
Shirley Povich field is a great family atmosphere each night and is perfect for every youngster, and the prices can't be beat ($7 adults, $3 kids 6-12, kids 5 and under free). Ex-Oriole JOHN MAINE is a BT Alum, as is current O's prospect Mike Costanzo, and so are a number of other current MLB players and prospects. We field a team that competes for the CRSBL title every year in a league that is a showcase of some of the best college talent in the country, and we'd love to see you out at the ballpark.
If you have any questions about Brooks' appearance or Big Train baseball, please e-mail us at faninfo@bigtrain.org. Thank you very much!
