She says she is leaving because the franchise is in a good place, yeah right I think there is way more to this story. She's probably leaving so the Wiz can use her salary to pay Ernie.

I don't think you guys are giving her enough credit for her business/marketing savy. She did a hell of a job continually putting arses in the seats when this franchise was a laughing-stock. She was not a one trick pony either, she was responsible for alot more than just the Bullets, Washington Sports and Entertainment is alot bigger than just sports. Not to mention she got started @ the age of 25. Pretty damn impressive in my book.

Farewell Susan!!

Farewell Susan!!

"Did a hell of a job" you're joking right? This is the best news for the Wizards since Kwame was traded for Caron. Maybe you're a little misinformed on O'Malley so i'll fill you in.

First of all she doesn't know **** about basketball. The reason she was hired so young is that he dad was best friends with old abe pollin. Yeah she might have been able to fill the seats but you know how she did that- by marketing the opponents star players instead of our own. She would give out ticket packages like a three game plan to see kobe, shaq, and iverson take on the wizards. She was using this type of advertising even when we were making the playoffs. Seeing that at games and on tv made me sick. Because of this advertising, prior to this year, you had a lot of people going to games who didn't care about whether the Wizards won or lost. Instead they came to see opposing teams "star players" or maybe they came for another one of her brilliant ideas "singles night."

I don't know about you but I despise the name the "wizards", our ugly uniforms, and stupis mascot. Yeah you can thank O'Malley for all of that too. The Bullets were a respected NBA franchise with rich history and tradition.

Look around you man. The Washington DC area is a hotbed for basketball. Yet how many people from this area do you know that are wizards fans? I know so many people here who love the Skins and love basketball but don't root for the wizards because of many of the aforementioned reasons. We get no respect with maketing like that and a name like the wizards. We were/still are a joke around the league because of many the actions taken by her.

Sorry for the long post but I just can't see how anyone who has been a fan of the franchise for a long time can be sad to see her leave. As for me I am ecstatic she is gone. Farewell Suse! maybe now I can hear advertising for our own ****ing team, maybe now we can go back to being the Washington Bullets with the old bullets uniforms, maybe the curse will finally be gone.

OK TiradeShamgod, let me break it down from another angle for you.

First of all, i don't need to be schooled on jack.. about the Bullets/Wizards. Lets go down your laundry list of items.

The reason she was hired was because her father Peter O'Malley.

So you have a problem with people with connections being brough on as interns and then working their way up the corporate ladder? She was an intern with the Bullets and Capitals, then O’Malley joined the organization full-time in 1986 as Director of Advertising. Oh but im sure she stayed there for 20 years cuz she sucked at it, no better yet, because Abe wanted to lose money.

Yeah she might have been able to fill the seats but you know how she did that- by marketing the opponents star players instead of our own.

And your point is? WE HAD NO STAR PLAYERS and this practice was nipped in the rear two years ago when Gil started to evolve into the player he has become. And if you recall correctly when Jordan played here she didn't have to do it either. But your right, she should have just sold the fans to the team we had and continually packed in 12k a night. With the Bullets/Wizards, O’Malley took a franchise that ranked last in most sales and customer service categories and quickly instituted programs and procedures that brought about dramatic change. Many of her customer service and community relations programs have been emulated industry-wide and the team’s season ticket renewal rates were consistently ranked among the NBA’s best. The franchise currently boasts a full season ticket equivalency base of just over 11,000 patrons and is coming off a season in which the team sold out 23 of its 41 home games, averaging 18,373 fans per game. But you want to gripe about how she did it? COme on get real man.

Instead they came to see opposing teams "star players" or maybe they came for another one of her brilliant ideas "singles night."

It worked right? And im talking about the singles night, we had attendance of over 18k this year but you want to complain about how she did it?

I don't know about you but I despise the name the "wizards", our ugly uniforms, and stupis mascot. Yeah you can thank O'Malley for all of that too. The Bullets were a respected NBA franchise with rich history and tradition.

I will always consider this team the Bullets but let me point something out to you. In 1995, owner ABE POLLIN announced that the franchise was to be renamed because Washington Bullets carried violent overtones. A contest was held to choose a new name and the choices were narrowed to the Dragons, Express, Stallions, Sea Dogs, or Wizards. Based on a focus group study Wizards was chosen. How in the hell do you get that Susan is to thank for that? Was she the lone member of the focus group.

I don't need you to tell me what basketball in this area is. This is actually a HUGE football hotbed and you don't see every damn football player out of the state rooting for the SKins right? And for as many as you say you know who love the Skins but won't root for the Zards, i can name the same amount who are loyal Bullets fans, Capital fans, Skins fans....etc. Who are you to say we get no respect because of our name or that we are a joke because of her actions? THat lack of respect was due to a crappy product on the court (DONT GET CONFUSED THE JOB DONE BY WES UNSELD AND SUSAN O'MALLEY) she had little if not anything to do with the actual product on the court, her job was to sell out the arena, which she did. She WAS NOT THE GM. As far as laughing stock, to who, your buddies who are fans of other teams, because i know damn well from reading sports business journal and forbes that NBA execs in cities who don't have superstars used many of her methods including the Singles Night and marketing other players..Sorry chief but thats what you do when you don't have a quality product, you find another reason to get people in the stands.

Sorry for the long post but I just can't see how anyone who has been a fan of the franchise for a long time can be sad to see her leave.

Maybe because you should admire or better yet appreciate somebody with a resume like her's. At age 45 she has accomplished more in 20 years than it takes people a lifetime. Not that it seems to matter too much to you, but she was also the first woman president of a professional sports franchise (that was kinda a big deal). She did what she was asked to do....sell seats. She was responsible for overseeing operations in the Abe Pollin owned Verizon Center (A HUGE SUCCESS), Finance, Human Resources/Payroll Services, Marketing, Team Operations, and TicketMaster as well as marketing and promotions for the Zards, Caps, Verizon Center, Patriot Center to name a few.

As for me I am ecstatic she is gone. Farewell Suse! maybe now I can hear advertising for our own ****ing team, maybe now we can go back to being the Washington Bullets with the old bullets uniforms, maybe the curse will finally be gone

Well good for you ShamGod! Im sure Susan will be heartbroken. You must not have been listening the last few years, cuz the marketing changed when we had the original big three of Gil, Twan and Larry.....remember the original playoffs poster 3 years ago!! As for going back to the Bullets, put a call in to Abe, or sign a petition, but get over it, Susan didn't change the name by her damn self. As far as the curse goes......we all hope it will be over sooner than later, but as i said earlier...dont mistake the failures of Wes Unseld, John Nash, Bob Ferry for the successes of Le Sous. There is a reason she was on just about every damn local sports show last night.......Cuz you my friend are in the minority!

Chill out man. I wasn't trying to offend you or anything with my comments I was just stating my opinion, as a fan, on O'Malley. I have my opinions and you have yours and thats fine.

I'm just saying that I do not believe she was the most qualified person in world for the job and that I disagree on some of the marketing and advertising decisions that she made for the franchise.

And actually I am not in the minority on this issue.

I agree with 0>23. I blame Wes for the horrible state of the Wiz throughout O'Malley's time. I kinda think she was just trying to make the best of a bad situation.

Actually GShamgod, your original post took a tone epecially with "your joking right?" that i had no idea what i was talking about. And it seemed far from your opinion, the way you stated your tirade it was as though the world agrees with you, which is just not true.

Now you want to say that you don't believe she was the most qualified person in the world for the job? Ok, who was? and how would they have made it better, they would have consulted YOU first? Who and what exactly do you do for a living that would even qualify you to be a person of knowledge on the matter of marketing expertise? Your post was strongly oppinionated and heavily biased towards your views not those of everybody in the world.

Lastly, you say you are not in the minority and try to prove it to me by showing me two message boards? Um ok. There was a total of maybe and i say maybe 5 posts that had anything resembling more than just pure ignorance when it comes to business/marketing and what happened here in DC. You should see the ones in her favor as well.

Seriously GS, telling me that the majority is with you and pointing to two websites, one of which im sure you were one of the posters in, is like saying the majority of americans support George Bush....go here and look........

www.republicansrule.com/messageboards (http://www.republicansrule.com/messageboards)
www.georgebushlovers.com/messageboards (http://www.georgebushlovers.com/messageboards)

If it was your opinion, leave it at that, you hate the woman, you dispise her, you don't agree with her. Whatever. Just don't try to bash other people or talk down to them when they disagree with your views.

Trust me man, im very chill.....it'll take a hell of alot more than an ignorant post to get me upset! Good day to you though....

hahahaha wow. Im sorry that I really offended you by starting my post off that way, seriously I did not intend to offend you. You've obviously taken a lot of time in your last 2 posts and since this is something really stupid to argue about this is my last post on the subject and i'll end it there. As for me posting the other threads I was just saying I'm not alone in the way I feel, that's all. You made me sound like I am the only one in the world who didn't like O'Malley and I just wanted to show you and others that I'm not alone.

We're both wizards fans ok man. I already said im sorry for offending you. I put my opinion out there and you put yours. Now... If you want a fight I'll fight but im not going to hide behind my computer and attack people.

so please, have a good one and go wizards
