When excactly does the free agent signing period start?
Anyways when it does start, who do you guys want to sign? Or more importantly who do you guys think we have a realistic shot at signing? It sounds as if D Stevenson won't be back so we might want to pick up another guard possibly, and of course we could use a big man badly.
ANother important question, What good big men are avaliable? I think that will be a key question for the Wizards this offseason, since we know EG will not go out and sign someone unless they're good value and also a good player. So unless their is a quality big man out there, i'd imagine that we'll see Haywood and Etan as our center agian this year.
Another impact on the free agents we go after could be the European guy OP, i won't even try to spell his name but you all know who i'm talking about, the guy we drafted last year in the first the 7 footer. If he is ready to come and make a huge impact, then obviously there won't be as much of a need for us to go out and sign someone.
So as of now, Who will we target, who do you want to target and which good players are avaliable for us to sign?
7/1/07 - Sunday, let the festivities begin.

It starts at midnight tonight, July 1st.
Honestly, what I want is to lock up Dray, let D Steezy walk, and sign Mikki Moore.
I have no idea what we will do though.

Don't you think Mikki Moore will be signed by the Nets?

haha yeah i'm wishing too. He'd be a great addition but i can't imagine the Nets letting him slip away.

Hopefully the Wiz lock up Blatche and keep DeShawn. I mean DeShawn has good chemistry with Gil especially and with Gil opting out after next season, the Wiz should try to keep him happy and re-sign DeShawn. Besides keeping those two, maybe they should look into signing a backup SF and/or a decent big in general.

Sasha Pavlovic from the Cavs impressed me in the Finals i'd be happy if we went after him.
Mo Williams averaged like 17 a game last year for the bucks, but im guessing he's gonna want a big contract.
I also just noticed Michael Ruffin and Roger Mason are both free agents and Jarvis hayes is a restricted free agent, i hope we don't lose any of them.

Uh, last time I checked FA's cannot be signed until July 11th. Negotiations can take place, and deals can be agreed upon, but nothing can become official until July 11th.
And as far as I'm concerned Ruffin and Hayes can get a piping hot cup of GET THE HELL OUT

we need to resign ruffin...when healthy hes more valuable then stevensen...there arent any top forwards/centers available and overall this is a very weak class with carter being the best available. Point gaurd is the one place where teams will be able to upgrade (with billiups, bibby, williams, blake, and boykins out there) but we already have arenas and AD so were set there. dont look for any major additions unless were add to our bench...A guy like maglore would be a good fit but hes the best center available so he will cost some money.
I would like to see us go after melvin eli or brian skinner both are centers who work hard and would be an upgrade of haywood/etan.

good post...
sometimes i wish the wizards were like the redskins when it comes to free agency...but i like our approach either way...but we need to resign Blatche ASAP!
I hope we just get a big man for cheap(a bargain like Deshawn's deal)
OP = the savior of our team this year, i call it now..him and blatche will make a impact we dream of!
Jamal Magoire sign him to a deal like Stevenson like last year. Maybe get someone like Hill if you can

You guys Jamal Magloire sucks. I'm sorry but he does... he's a carbon copy of Haywood, and I for one have had quite enough of bums like that. EG has had 3 opportunities to trade for him in the past and opted not to pull the trigger. I wonder why... cause he sucks.
If you wanna talk about getting anyone to replace Haywood, talk about a Mikki Moore, or a Brian Skinner, or a DeSagana Diop. Someone who may not have huge numbers, but will come out and give maximum effort and high energy. That's what this team needs at that position. Not a big, slow, sloppy dumbass that doesn't play hard.
Ruffin more valuable than Stevenson, huh? WHAT?! The only thing you guys must be thinking of when remembering Stevenson this past year is the playoffs... It's not fair to judge him on that he had his role carved out nicely on this team before everyone started dropping like flies to injury.
Ruffin's impact on this team was FAR, far less than Stevenson's this past season. Unless you count the fact that Ruffin single handedly lost a game for us. DOH!
I think Ruffin probably will be re-signed, even though I don't want him to be, but a guy coming in the game just to foul people and get 3 or 4 rebounds is not as important as Stevenson's 15 ppg before people got hurt.
Just my two or three cents.

i would love grand hill to come here, but we need big men more then anything....i still think we can trade haywood and get someone decent...

i agree, i think a lot of people let their man crushes/homerism get in the way when they judge Ruffin, he's really of no value to this team and although re-signing him for the league minimum isn't gonna kill us, i wish we would go after Stevenson.

Well we really cant afford to much, but i'd take Mikkie Morre, Anderson Varejao, Motumbo maybe? And re-sign Blatche and Stevenson..Or i'd pretty much take any good big man.

I say that we should pursue Moore (even though he reminds me of a poor man's AJ), and Anderson Varejao seems like a no brainer to target. However, I don't see him on the market very long, because I think Cleveland will re-sign him.

I agree with SantanaClause as well, but I think we could get a solid center through a trade with Haywood for young Seatle's Center 2nd year Sene. I think he will will come in right away and hustle and get rebounds and block shots, and just like I heard before that's all we need from Center and he will give that to us

why do people keep saying that were going to trade haywood...no body wants haywood the last three years EG has tried to trade him but he hasn't bin able to. I don't know if its possible but we should just by out his contract or just out right release him.
Haywood will be traded,he tradede brown didn't he when nobody thought he could be traded. It will happen and we'll all sit back and say how did he do it.

I think if anyone could pull it off, EG could... but at the same time I have my doubts as to wether Haywood can be moved. I mean people have to know by now that if you make a trade with EG, you WILL come up on the short end of the stick.. lol.
From everything I've heard thus far anyway, the Wizards have been actively shopping Thomas, and not Haywood.

Thomas seems more tradeable. Both have serious issues, but Thomas seems to have a better reputation than Haywood (for what it's worth).
