Despite an impressive 38-point performance by Nick Young, The Washington Wizards lose 113 to 121 to the Miami Heat.

Young scored 10 points in the first quarter as Washington jumped out to an early lead. The second quarter saw both teams throw defense right out the window as they scored a combined for 79 points, including nine consecutive baskets by Dwayne Wade (41 pts, 5 reb).

Wade and Young swapped buckets through out the game as the Wizards kept it close mid-way through the third quarter. With 7:47 remaining in the third period Young sprained his ankle and missed the rest of the quarter.

This blog is dedicated to the Washington Wizards but needed to show love to the George Mason Patriots Mens Basketball team.  They deserve it as they are heading into the CAA tournament with their heads high! Also, I currently go to George Mason as well, so I have to represent my school!

With this win, George Mason Patriots clinch with the #1 seed in the CAA Championship. This win was huge as it gives the Patriots confidence going into the CAA tournament and possibly the NCAA tournament (Hopefully!).

Five Questions about the Future of the Wizards

Written by Shaun Ahmad on .

Is Flip Saunders the right guy for the job?

This is as tough of a question as they come and depends on who you ask because Saunders has been an outstanding coach in the NBA for a long time.  You don't coach a team to sixty-plus wins and repeat Eastern Conference finals appearances the way he did in Detroit by being a schmuck.

That said, coaching a team of veterans who understand the game versus keeping up with a team full of young guys with their own agendas are two completely separate jobs.  I have no doubt that Flip will find success as a coach in the NBA.  None.  But I don't know if he is right person for the rebuilding project that the Wizards are undergoing.  To his credit, he hasn't run from the challenge and has embraced it.  At the same time, it doesn't take a psychiatrist to look at Saunders and tell that he's getting tired.

If not Saunders, then who should coach this team?

There are several ways to go.  The Wizards can bring in a veteran coach with a world of experience - but isn't that what they already have in Saunders?

I think the direction and trend of coaches being hired is to aim for the up-and-coming assistants who have had the time to develop under veteran head coaches.  Case in point, Thom Thibodeau in Chicago, Erik Spoelstra in Miami, and Scott Brooks in Oklahoma City.  These guys are fairly young, highly motivated, and have the energy to control young guys with egos bigger than their respective games.  Brian Shaw of the Lakers comes to mind as a possible candidate.  Again, the search would have to be extensive, but following in the trend of Chicago, OKC, and Miami may not be such a bad idea.

Will Andray Blatche be with the Wizards at the end of the 2011-12 season?

Blatche's future with the franchise is in his own hands.  If he wants to continue to live up to the reputation he has built of being selfish or being immature, then the status quo for how he has been all season will ultimately lead to him being traded.

If he wants to become what Joakim Noah is to Derrick Rose and really become the second star alongside John Wall, all he has to do is make the commitment.  Unfortunately, he's in the early years of his guaranteed contract and the motivation won't be financial - it can only come from within him.

I don't think he will be in Washington at this point next season.

Hinrich Traded to ATL in 5-Player Deal

A night before the NBA's February 24th trade deadline, the Washington Wizards trade Kirk Hinrich and Hilton Armstrong to the Atlanta Hawks for Mike Bibby, Maurice Evans, Jordan Crawford and a 2011 first round pick.

Hinrich and Armstrong traveled with the Wizards to the Wells Fargo Center for tonight's 117-94 loss to the Philadelphia 76ers but neither dressed as they were informed of a possible trade. The two joined their team on the bench for the first half but did not return to the floor for the second half of play.

Team owner Ted Leonsis and General Manager Ernie Grunfield's maintained their plan to build with draft picks and young players with this trade. Ironically Hinrich arrived to the Wizards through a similar deal last summer, along with the number 17 overall pick which they used on Kevin Seraphin. The Wizards now have multiple picks in the first round of the 2011 draft, as well as Jordan Crawford who was a the 27th overall pick in 2010.

Some Wizards are still on a break

Wizards Lose To the Pacers at Home 113-96

The Wizards came out of the All Star Break fresh from the Slam Dunk performance of high flyerJaVale McGee and MVP of the Rookie/Sophmore game, John Wall. As they were in Los Angeles enjoying their festivities, the rest of the team was resting during the All Star Game.  It looks like they left there game there.

Wall

Nick Young, who is the Wizards most improved player, had a horrible shooting game.  He could not get anything going on the offensive end.  He ended up with 16 points with 4 of 15 shooting. Just a bad shooting game for Nick who said after the game that last Sunday was the last time he picked up a basketball.  That's a long time with out playing basketball.  I know for me personally, If I don't play for more than a week, then I struggle with my shot.

Every Time the ball was in the air it felt like nobody wanted to grab a rebound and they were just watching.

Another frustrating game at home as they looked like they were not sync at all.  Not one time did this home crowd get behind them until the 4th quarter when Josh McRoberts missed 2 free throws to give this crowd something to cheer about as they all got Free Chick Fillet.

Speaking of Josh McRoberts, it seems like him and John Wall don't like each other because this was the 2nd straight game they played and had words for each other.  Not even sure if anybody caught that.

With that said.

Al Thornton said it best on twitter after the game:

Magic Rout Wizards 101-76, Sweep Season Series

Bring out the dreaded brooms. In their last game before the all-star break, the Orlando Magic beat the Washington Wizards 101 to 76 and wrap up a season sweep of their Southeastern division foe.

Dwight Howard put up his usual gaudy numbers, scoring 32 points and pulling down 10 rebounds in only 28 minutes. In four games against the Wiz this season, Howard has scored above his average with 27.5 points per game (22.5 ppg for the season) despite playing well below his 36.6 minutes per game (32.8 against WAS).

Wizards Rout The Cavaliers, Snap 25 Game Road Losing Streak

Written by Ajay Atayee on .

WizCavs

A night after everything seemed to go wrong; the Wizards do almost everything right as they snap their 25-game road-losing streak by beating the Cleveland Cavaliers 115 to 100. The game that was to be dubbed the "toilet bowl" lost it's initial luster of battle of the historic losing streaks, but for Wizards fans this coveted first was just sweet.

Despite only shooting two free throws for the night, Nick Young scored 31 points on only 21 shots (67 FG%) from the field. Young got on track early scoring 16 points in the first quarter. He was primarily defended by Daniel “Boobie” Gibson (2 pts) during this run; Gibson didn’t play in the second half due to a quadriceps injury.

After the game Comcast Sports Net’s Glenn Consor stated that people should not feel bad for the Cavaliers just because LeBron James chose to leave. That was a little difficult as John Wall, this year’s number one pick, put on a clinic scoring 19 points and dishing out 14 assists for the somber crowd at the Quicken Loans Arena.
